The Role Of Nurses In US Healthcare

It’s no secret that the healthcare industry is in a tough spot. The United States has some of the best medical care and the most expensive- and it only gets more complicated with an aging population and new emerging diseases. It can be easy to forget about nurses and their essential role in the US health care system, so we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you why they are so vital. Nurses play a central role in all aspects of healthcare. From patient safety and education to research and development, nursing is at the forefront of providing quality care for patients.

Nurses provide care and education to patients, as well as monitor them for changes in condition. They also work with physicians to ensure that the correct course of treatment is being administered, whether a simple check-up or surgery. From tracking medication schedules to changing bandages and ensuring compliance among patients, nurses are dedicated individuals who do not receive enough recognition for their work.

Nurses are also involved in research and development, working to improve existing medical technologies and develop new ones to help advance patient care. Their extensive knowledge of current treatments helps them identify gaps in healthcare systems that scientists can then analyze from several different disciplines, including medicine, chemistry, biochemistry, and biology.

Nurses are also involved in the teaching aspect of healthcare; they work with students on medical education programs to prepare them for future patient care positions. As an increasing number of nurses retire each year without enough qualified replacements ready to step up, this role will continue to grow as a necessary part of US health care systems.
