Would You Give CBD Oil To Your Dog?
Pets have much keener senses than humans. Dogs can get agitated by things we don’t even notice or choose to ignore. We can’t generally ask our pets what is bothering them unless we witness it as acutely as them. Their keen senses helped their ancestors survive and thrive in the world but can sometimes be detrimental to domestic animals. Many studies have found that CBD affects most dogs the same way as humans.
Dogs lives and mental health can be adversely affected by anxiety and fear. CBD can provide helpful results on the body and mind of pets. It can provide an overall sense of calm and well being for even the most skittish of our furry friends.
There are two main products of cannabis plants are marijuana and hemp. Hemp contains loads of CBD, while marijuana usually contains more THC. They each affect the body in completely different ways.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
Interestingly enough, they have the same chemical formula. They can both be found in cannabis products. Both have 21 carbon atoms, 30 hydrogen atoms, and two oxygen atoms. They both affect the neurotransmitters in the brain. Well, that is where the similarities end. Their atoms are arranged in completely different ways. They each affect the body in different ways. THC is psychoactive and gives one the ”high” feeling. There is a lot of research into the benefits of CBD but it is generally agreed that it supports well-being and health without the “high.”
How Does CBD Oil Help Dogs?
CBD oil works with receptors, known as the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), in the central nervous system. These help control functions including: sleep; mood; immunity; and sensations. CBD oil helps the ECS maintain homeostasis or balance.
The availability neurotransmitter Serotonin (contributor to feelings of well-being) is increased by the ECS when CBD oil is introduced into the equation. This can produce effects similar to anti-depressants humans. In other words, CBD oil can greatly reduce stress and anxiety in your dog.
Dogs can show anxiety in many different ways. Some may include:
- Hiding
- Whimpering
- Trembling
- Ear flattening
- Nervous licking and chewing
- Loss of appetite
- Runaway attempts
- Intestinal issues
- Accidents
Anxiety in dogs can be caused by many outside factors. Some may include:
- Genetics
- Socialization (Too much or too little)
- Aging and body changes
- Unstable history
- Bad experiences
- Illness
- Abrupt or severe schedule changes
- Weather
- Loud noises (traffic, fireworks, other animals in the area)
- Allergic reaction
- Food sensitivities
Our Experience:
We have two 13-year-old chihuahuas, Lucy & Ricky. They are litter-mates and have never been separated for more than an hour. They are truly awesome and lovable pets. We are truly grateful they chose us as their humans.
Being 13 (or 91 in dog years), they have started to slow down and lose a bit of that small dog jazz they maintained over the years. I introduced them to Hempworx 250 MG Bacon Flavored Full Spectrum CBD Oil (5mg of Cannabidiol (CBD) per serving) a couple of months ago. It wasn’t some magic potion that had miraculous claims or instant results. It was amazing though. Gradually, some of the little aches and pains they were experiencing seemed to be relieved. They seemed to gain a little pep in their steps. They even began playing and running around more than they have in years.
I have been adding the easy to use bacon flavored drops to their food for a couple of months now and am very happy with the results. The price is also good. You can even sign up for an auto-ship program to get discounts. They also have dogs treats and lots of products for humans. Click here for more info.
