Drake Jensen, openly gay Canadian country music artist, has done an amazing job with “Scars.” His new single and video speak to the destructive effects of bullying upon youth in our community every day. Experiencing this, out and proud, father figure share the story of his own bullying while standing up for others is very eye-opening and thought provoking.

Bullying is not isolated to the LGBTQ community. Being supposedly different and separate helps bullies point us out and set us apart for their verbal and often violent abuses. Many of us have experienced this and been afraid to stand alone against the supposed stronger opponent. I think each one of us can take a small stand and show that we as a community are strong and equal to whatever standards society sets. We are not better than anyone. We need to show that we are equal and proud to everyone including ourselves.
