Cancer is a word none of us ever want to hear but it is an illness that is common all over the world and can take lives in certain forms.

In simple terms cancer is an illness that occurs when cells start to reproduce at an exponential rate and poison the body. There are many treatments out there for cancer that can be effective and food is actually something that can help reduce the risk of developing cancer in the first place .

Today we want to talk about cancer and its relationship with food, and how your diet could impact your risk of developing it. If you want to learn more about cancer and it’s forms you can research at a scientific journal such as Oncotarget.

Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away… literally. Apples are a fruit full of vitamin C and other good stuff and they can indeed keep the body healthy and fight off the risk of cancer. Apples are great for the immune system as well as our cardiovascular health and they contain anti cancer properties. Polyphenols in apples are able to prevent inflammation as well as tumors.

Berries

Berries such as raspberries and blueberries are known to be full of antioxidants which are used to fight off free radicals in the body. Free radicals can also be partially responsible for the formation of cancer cells so eating berries each and every day can be a great way to prevent this happening to you. Blueberries in particular have anti inflammatory properties that have been proven to prevent the growth of tumors so this could be an incredibly good thing to bring into your daily diet this year.

Carrots

Carrots are full of a nutrient called beta-carotene which helps to keep the immune system strong and gives our body the strength it needs to fight off and prevent cancer. Carrots are also packed with antioxidants as well as vitamin K which is great for the body and will keep you strong and healthy.

Salmon

We all know that oily fish such as salmon is full to the brim of food stuff such as lean protein, fatty acids like omega 3 and 6, and vitamins. Salmon is rich in potassium as well as vitamin B which are both important for the functioning of our bodies and the upkeep of cells. Eating oily fish as well as having fish oil tablets can help reduce the risk of cancer and keep us healthy for longer.

Walnuts

Walnuts might look like a brain – but they are an important nut for us to add to our diet if we are to fight against cancer. Walnuts are full of healthy fat that keeps us strong, and also a substance called pedunculagin. Pedunculagin is a substance that is known for its tumor fighting properties and makes a huge impact on the body in a good way.

Try adding these foods to your diet this year to reduce your risk of cancer in the future.
