4 Tips On Hosting Your First Get Together

If it’s your turn to host and it’s your first time, you’re probably feeling excited, nervous and filled with dread all at the same time – and that’s totally normal! However, it’s important to remember that your guests are there to see you and spend time with you, not judge you on the food you set out or the way your home is laid out. But, it’s understandable that you want to make an effort to give your guests an enjoyable and memorable night. So, let’s take a look at some simple ways to pull off a fun evening as the host with the most.

Add a theme to your evening

Your guests will already be excited to spend the evening with you, but why not vamp things up and add a theme to your evening? It doesn’t matter whether you live in the city or are more of a country bumpkin, there are always themes that you could use for your get together. So, if you’ve got guests that really enjoy action movies, ask everyone to come dressed as their favorite character. You could add other little touches like decorations and music to accompany the theme, and it will also serve as a really nice way to start your event.

Keep it lighthearted

One of the biggest fears people have when hosting is that there’s going to be a lull in conversation or that people will take things too seriously. Try and remember that the idea of the gathering is to enjoy yourselves, so try and keep it lighthearted. Whether you break the ice with a much loved Chuck Norris joke or you start with a funny anecdote from your week, it will help everyone relax into place as your evening begins.

Create a refreshment station

As the host you’ll naturally be making sure that everyone has got a drink and that they are comfortable, but it’s important to remember that you should enjoy your night too. To take some of the pressure off, create a refreshment station with glasses and an assortment of drinks and nibbles so that guests can pour their own drinks without feeling like they need to ask you or go rummaging around your kitchen. Remember to include a waste bin nearby for empty cans and bottles, and make sure that you’ve got more than one bottle opener circling your home!

Bring out some party games

Finally, while conversation and laughter are more than enough for a memorable evening, why not give your guests the option to play some party games? Whether you choose to play a bit of friendly poker or turn to something a little more spicy like Cards Against Humanity is up to you and your guests! Put out a range of different things you could be doing and if it doesn’t end up being used, at least it was there as an option to begin with.

Hosting a get together doesn’t have to be stressful. Use these tips to take some of the pressure off and most importantly, enjoy your night!
